WHY MURRYBOWL?

A Bowl Designed Around the Way Flat-Faced Pets Gather Food

Traditional round bowls were not created around the shorter snouts and distinctive eating movements of flat-faced pets.

Murrybowl™ is a patented, floor-based feeding bowl with purposeful slopes, angles, ridges, and textured surfaces that help short-snouted pets reach and collect their food. Its substantial base helps keep the bowl in place for an easier, cleaner mealtime experience.

Created for French Bulldogs, Pugs, Bulldogs, Boston Terriers, Shih Tzus, Persian cats, and other small and medium flat-faced companions.

Inspired by a Real
Mealtime Challenge

Our pug Murry approached his food differently. Ordinary bowls spun and scooted across the floor while food scattered around the kitchen.

We searched for something designed around the way he ate, but most choices were variations of the same traditional round bowl.

That led us to ask:

Could the inside of a bowl help a flat-faced pet gather food?

That simple question inspired Murrybowl's patented, utensil-inspired design.

Purpose in Every Detail

Murrybowl combines a food-gathering interior with a stable, adaptable base—thoughtfully designed for flat-faced pets.

1. Sloped Back
Helps guide food toward accessible areas.

2. Spoon-like Angles
This Utensil-Inspired interior helps pets scoop and collect food.

3.  Fork-like ridges

This Utensil-Inspired interior helps pets pin and collect food.

4. Textured Licking Surface
Provides tongue contact with logo imprint and multiple angles and ridges for licking and gathering remaining food.

5. Wide, Open Approach
Provides more room for short snouts and flat faces to approach the meal.

6. Weighted Stay-Put Base
The substantial cast-aluminum base and flat exterior back help reduce sliding, spinning, and tipping.

7. Optional Non-Skid Pegs
Can be attached when additional grip is desired on compatible flooring.

The Utensil-Inspired Difference

People use spoons and forks to gather and collect food. Murrybowl applies similar principles inside a pet bowl.

The spoon-like slopes and angles help guide food toward accessible areas. The fork-like ridges provide backstops against which a pet’s tongue can scoop and collect food. The textured half-moon bottom and plate-like slope provide surfaces for licking and gathering food remaining in the bowl.

Instead of simply changing the height of a traditional bowl, Murrybowl rethinks the shape, texture, and function of the eating surface itself.

Stable Wherever Mealtime Happens

While the interior helps pets gather food, the exterior helps keep the feeding platform in place.

Murrybowl combines:

  • A substantial food-safe, powder-coated cast-aluminum base

  • A patent-protected flat exterior back that can be positioned against a wall or cabinet

  • Optional non-skid base pegs for additional traction when desired

Use Murrybowl with or without the pegs, depending on your floor surface and preferred feeding location.

Two Colors. Two Inserts. Easier Everyday Care.

Each Murrybowl includes one blue and one yellow removable insert.

Dogs see color differently from people and distinguish variations of blue and yellow particularly well. These purposeful colors also make it simple to rotate clean feeding surfaces throughout the day.

Each insert:

  • Holds up to two cups

  • Accommodates dry food, wet food, or water

  • Can be hand-washed with mild soap and warm water

  • Is dishwasher-safe

  • Fits securely into the weighted base

Use one insert while the other is being cleaned, so a fresh feeding surface can be ready for the next meal.

Veterinary Education for Flat-Faced Pet Families

These independent veterinary resources help explain the anatomy, vision, and everyday feeding considerations behind important aspects of Murrybowl’s design.

The articles did not test or evaluate Murrybowl and should not be interpreted as endorsements of the product.

Understanding Flat-Faced Anatomy

Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine explains that brachycephalic dogs have shortened facial anatomy that can affect breathing and swallowing. Gagging while eating or drinking is identified as one possible sign of brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome.

Murrybowl does not diagnose or treat this condition. Its design was created around the distinctive way short-snouted pets approach and gather their food.

Eating and

Swallowed Air

Veterinarian-written and reviewed information from PetMD explains that dogs may swallow excess air while eating or breathing. It also notes that brachycephalic breeds tend to swallow more air because of their airway structure.

This reinforces the importance of paying attention to how flat-faced pets approach their meals. Murrybowl does not prevent or treat gas, bloating, or respiratory conditions.

Why Blue and

Yellow?

Dogs see color, but differently from people. Veterinarian-written and reviewed information from PetMD explains that dogs distinguish variations of blue and yellow well, while red and green are more difficult for them to differentiate.

This supports the purposeful choice of one blue and one yellow Murrybowl insert.

Clean Bowls

Matter

Veterinarian-reviewed guidance from PetMD recommends cleaning food and water bowls daily because they come into contact with food and pet saliva.

Murrybowl’s two removable, washable inserts make it easier to keep a clean feeding surface available.
